You and I are sinners. Romans 3:10, 12 says, "As it is written, There is none righteous,
no, not one...There is none that doeth good, no, not one." I know you may be thinking you're a pretty
good person, and you may be, by all human standards. But to God, "we are all as an unclean thing, and all
our righteousnesses are as filthy rags" (Isaiah 64:6). Even if you've never murdered anybody, have you ever told a lie?
If you've never stolen anything, you've probably covetted something that belongs to someone else. James 2:10 says, "For
whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." According to the Bible,
a liar is just as guilty as a murderer. If we were to stand before God today in our sin, we would be greatly ashamed!
And worse, we would be condemned...
There is an awful penalty for sin. "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the
abominable...and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."
Rev. 21:8. The second death is that of the soul. The death of the body is the first death. "And death and
hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book
of life was cast into the lake of fire." Revelation 20:14, 15. Many people - and even preachers - deny the existence
of a second death in a literal hell, but the Bible is very clear that it exists. Who goes to hell? Sinners!
"For the wages of sin is death..." Romans 6:23. According to the Scriptures, you and I deserve nothing more than to
spend eternity in hell. We have no merit on our own...
Except that God loves us!
Christ has already paid the death penalty for your sins! "But God commendeth (shows)
his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8. Through His Son
Jesus, God has made a way for us to have ours sins forgiven and our names written in the Book of Life in Heaven!
When Jesus died on the cross, He was taking your place as condemned sinner, because He had no sin-guilt of His own.
He shed His sinless blood so that you and I could have life! This is good news, because the only other way we could
pay the penalty for our sins would be to spend an eternity in a burning hell. God offers a gift to you - this gift of
forgiveness and eternal life in Heaven! "The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23b
All you have to do is receive God's gift! "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth
the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Just
confess to the Lord that you know you are a sinner bound for hell. Believing in the sufficiency of Christ's death and
resurrection, ask Him to forgive you and save you. He will do it! You have His word on it. "For whosoever
shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13.
Why don't you pray right now, and invite Jesus into your heart to be your Saviour! You'll be forever glad
that you did. He will then write YOUR name into the Book of Life, and there it will remain unto the day that you
stand before God. Your place in Heaven is securely reserved when you ask Jesus to save you.
